Women in Medicine (WIM) is an international community with accessible and comprehensive medical education resources. WIM values cross-specialty continuing medical education, family-inclusive retreats, constructive networking and mentorship opportunities, as well as medical education made accessible by scholarships.

To begin our user research, we conducted 5 interviews and collected 19 survey responses to assess users’ experiences with the current website.
Our affinity diagram played a crucial role in synthesizing insights from our entire user research process, answering questions such as “What are major areas of improvement to focus on across the website’s organization, content, and visual design?” and “Are there any important patterns or trends in the data we’ve collected?”.
Key Insights
11/19 participants mentioned they liked the inclusion of many photos
10/19 participants, the majority, rated the ease of navigation a 4 out 5 (1 being poor and 5 being excellent)!
19/19 participants were able to find what they were looking for!

Pain Points
4/19 participants described the website as old-fashioned or outdated
4/19 participants mentioned awkward spacing and margins
3/19 participants mentioned wanting more links to other resources and or links on the homepage
8/19 participants expressed they wished there were some more colors or expressed dislike for the current dark purple (2/19 thought the light blue clashed with the purple)
6/19 participants thought the photos lacked structure or could be more relevant content wise
3/19 participants suggested having more context for the photos (ex. add captions)

After consolidating information from our surveys and interviews, we developed three user personas. These personas reflected the pain points and motivations of potential users of the WIM website.
